Stockton launches first Civic Awards
Wednesday, 14 December 2011
Wednesday, Dec 14 2011

The Mayor of Stockton, Councillor Paul Baker today Wednesday, 14 December, launched Stockton Council's first Civic Awards aimed at honouring people, organisations or businesses who have made a real difference to the their community.

He said: "I want to make sure the people who do so much good for the benefit of others across Stockton Borough are given the recognition they deserve. The Civic Awards will turn the spotlight on those who never ask for any thanks and simply get on with things quietly and efficiently.

"To honour their work I will be presenting the awards at our Annual Meeting in April so a wide audience can celebrate the valuable contributions of all those nominated. I am appealing to people to think who deserves one of these awards and then to nominate them."

The Civic Awards also aim to highlight people who set an inspiring example to their community through their effort and determination.

There are four award categories:

Young Person's Award for an individual or group of young people (under 25) who deserve special recognition for the unique and valuable contribution they have made to improve the quality of life for other people.

Services to the Community Award which will go to a nominee that has done something particularly noteworthy, or has enhanced the reputation of the Borough.

Green Award for a nominee who has made a significant difference to the conservation and protection of the natural environment of the Borough.

Carer/Foster Carer Award to recognise the extraordinary dedication of an individual or couple, who have provided a loving and supportive family life to a child or sibling group who do not live with their birth family.

The nomination panel will be chaired by the Mayor and will include the Leader of Stockton Council, Councillor Bob Cook, Stockton Council's Chief Executive, Neil Schneider, and a range of other representatives.

Information on how to nominate is available at www.stockton.gov.uk/civicawards and forms are also available by contacting the Mayor's Office. The closing date for nominations is 28 February 2012.
