What are you doing to identify, support and celebrate informal carers this carers week?

Carers Week – 7th – 13th June 2021

There were up to 9.1 million unpaid carers across the UK before the COVID-19 pandemic, providing everything from a few hours of support a week to intensive and complex round the clock care. The pandemic has now resulted in millions of new carers – with an estimated 4.5 million new to caring since the start of the pandemic, 2.8 million of whom are juggling work and care.

Caring can have significant costs and without sufficient support, it can take its toll on carers’ emotional and physical health, ability to work and have a knock-on effect on their long-term finances. Carers have been hit particularly hard as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and this Carers Week would be the ideal opportunity for you to reconfirm your support and commitment to carers by highlighting the role and the huge effects of the pandemic on their lives.

Stockton Carers Network are challenging you! – What you will be doing as individuals, services and organisations to identify, inform, support and celebrate carers during Carers Week?

As a Carers Network they would encourage you to consider your support and make an event of Carers Week this year. They would love to hear your plans and would be happy to share these to social media, newsletters and inform our service users and carers of your events, support or information.

Some suggestions:

  • Online support group/ coffee and chat for carers
  • Online celebration event, quiz or sing along
  • Hand out information packs to carers and service users
  • Use your social media platform to share stories, thank you’s and links to carers support services within your area
  • Write to all of your service users helping them to identify themselves as carers and listing the support you can offer

Plus many others– the team can’t wait to hear what imaginative ideas you have come up with!

During carers week you can also share your successes and support for carers on social media using the hash tags

#StocktonCarersWeek2021 Or #StocktonCares
