The Department of Education has announced grants to fund the co-ordination of free holiday activities and healthy food for disadvantaged children, especially those receiving free school meals, during the school summer holidays in 2019.

The project will aim to increase the quantity and quality of holiday provision, putting new standards into practice and supporting a wide range of organisations to deliver exciting and accessible programmes.

A group of partners in Stockton-on-Tees, including Children North East, Stockton Borough Council and Catalyst, are working together to put in an application for these funds.  This is a very ambitious project with challenging targets and we will need to work with everyone to ensure that children and young people in Stockton have the best summer ever!

Organisations will need to be able to run holiday clubs for 4 hours a day for 4 days a week for 4 weeks of the holidays ideally, provide a healthy lunch and run varied creative programmes for children and young people aged 5-16 years. We envisage that community organisations and charities, schools, faith organisations, housing providers and others will respond to this call to express an interest in being part of this great opportunity.
