Poverty Hurts Appeal launches as families face tough winter.
Last week County Durham Community Foundation launched the Poverty Hurts Appeal to support families, individuals and senior citizens across County Durham and Tees Valley this winter. As temperatures fall, poverty bites deeper in our communities.
Excess winter deaths are rising across the country, and one-in-three local children now live in poverty. But by working together, you can make a positive difference for children without winter coats or shoes, families struggling with fuel poverty and senior citizens who feel forgotten and frightened.
County Durham Community Foundation is leading the way by donating the £7,000 they saved in travel expenses because of the pandemic. Businesses and individuals that are new to the Foundation could also unlock match funding by donating.
