Stockton-on-Tees Unites Against Dementia for Dementia Awareness Week

To celebrate Dementia Awareness Week in 2017, the North of Tees Dementia Collaborative is running a poetry competition across the Stockton-on-Tees Borough to help people of all ages to understand dementia and how it affects people and their families.

Dementia Awareness Week runs from 14th-20th May, during which there will be a number of activities raising the awareness of dementia including market stalls across the Borough, a sponsored fun walk at Tees Barrage, and the judging of the poetry competition by the Stockton-on-Tees Dementia Advisory Group.

The competition opens on 27th March and will close on 3rd May.

Entries to the competition are welcomed from all ages, and will be separated into three categories:  Ages 5-11, Ages 12-18, and Over 18s. Three finalists from each category will be invited to an awards ceremony on 19th June with prizes for the winner of each category to be awarded by writer Kate Fox.

Every entry will be put into a draw to win an electronic tablet generously donated by Tesco.

Dementia Awareness Week this year focuses on the theme of “Unite Against Dementia”, which is also the theme for the poetry competition. By uniting, we can raise awareness, offer help and understanding, improve care, and ultimately work towards finding a cure.
