From Monday 9th to Sunday 15th June, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council will be supporting the annual Carers Week campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities.
The theme for this year is ‘Caring About Equality’, which highlights the inequalities faced by unpaid carers and the steps needed to create a fairer society. Far too often, carers of all ages miss out on opportunities in their education, careers, or personal lives, just because of their caring role.
A carer is anyone who looks after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness, addiction, or who needs extra help and support as they grow older.
You can find out more about Carers Week HERE.
Locally, the Council’s Adult Carers Support Service will be hosting a range of events, you can follow the team HERE.
There are lots of organisations across the Borough that provide support for carers and cared-for people, which you can find HERE.
