Catalyst is the voluntary sector infrastructure organisation in Stockton-on-Tees. We exist to help other charities do their jobs better. We provide support and advice around funding, governance, training, and we use the intelligence generated from our network of several hundred voluntary sector organisations to represent the sector in discussions with others – primarily public sector partners.

Catalyst is starting a consultancy function, and we are looking for skilled, experienced people to work with us when projects come our way, either from voluntary sector bodies or public sector organisations. We will market our services to public and voluntary sector partners, working with Associates to deliver much of the work. Our Associates will not be full time employees, but they could be employed on a short-term basis, or they could work as sub-contractors.

In particular, we are looking for people who can offer support on the following types of project:

Project Evaluation

This service will work with clients to evaluate the success of projects or programmes of work that they have undertaken. We will be especially interested in people with an understanding of social impact, economic impact, and/or delivery of projects in local communities.

Assessing outputs and outcomes

Many VCSOs take on contracts from external bodies, and need to define outputs and outcomes so that the client can be assured about project performance. If you have the skills to help define outputs and outcomes, and/or to monitor their achievement on behalf of a VCS partner, please let us know.

Market Research

We want to work with clients to help them understand their market, and opportunities to grow their social enterprise. If you have experience of market research, we’d like to hear from you.

Community Engagement

If you are experienced in community consultation via a range of methods, qualitative or quantitative, please get in touch.


Successfully applying for funding from external sources is key to the sustainability of voluntary and community sector organisations, and social enterprises. If you have experience of generating income from writing bids, we’re interested in working with you.

Project or Programme Management

Catalyst has the opportunity to manage a number of programmes, working with community groups, often acting as the primary contractor with a number of sub-contractors working in local areas, or with specific population groups. If you have experience of this sort, please tell us.

Interim Management

A voluntary sector organisation may require someone to help them whilst a vacancy is filled, perhaps for a Chief Executive or Senior Manager. If you have the experience to help them out, perhaps relating to performance management or project management, please tell us.

Business mediation

Mediation is about resolving a problem that may have developed between two members of staff, or two organisations. We are looking for people who have the experience to work with the two parties, help them consider the issues from a neutral perspective, and reach agreement.
