Councillor Jim Beall was appointed as Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees on 24 May 2023.
The Mayor is the first citizen of the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees. The role of the Mayor is to promote the Council as a whole, acting as a focal point for the community, attending civic and ceremonial functions and fulfilling civic duties as appropriate.
Born and raised in Stockton, Councillor Beall has represented the Roseworth ward since 2007. Prior to taking up his civic role, he was Deputy Leader of the Council from 2011 – 2022. He is passionate about helping local people, and in his 12 years as a Cabinet Member, he served as Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, with responsibility for a wide range of services for residents, including some of the Borough’s most vulnerable people and later as Cabinet Member for Health, Leisure and Culture. He has previously served as Chair of the Stockton-on-Tees Health and Wellbeing Board.
The Mayor’s chosen charities this year are the Eastern Ravens Trust which supports disadvantaged children and young people including young carers and the North East Autism Society, which recently opened a school on Roseworth.
Looking ahead to his mayoral year, Councillor Jim Beall has commented:
“As well as the traditional Mayoral duties I’ll have throughout the year, I’m looking forward to visiting some of the many community initiatives that focus on improving the wellbeing and health of people in the Borough.
There are a lot of great organisations doing great things to help our communities and I’d like to support them in raising their profile.”
In his role as Mayor, Councillor Beall is keen to recognise and promote:
- the needs of young carers and children and young people with autism and enhance their wellbeing
- the importance of the role of the voluntary and community sector in contributing to improving wellbeing and health
- the value of culture in improving general wellbeing
