The Finding Me project has been running for 2 weeks now and has already connected several people in the community to others in similar situations.
Service users have said:
“The conversation I had took me back to my counselling days, I came off the phone smiling, I felt like I’d made a difference”
“Thanks, we had a lovely chat this afternoon and will be talking again soon”
The project offers a co-ordinated network of support by providing a friendly voice at the end of a telephone line, a longed for conversation, reminiscence or even just a moan about the weather.
We have several volunteers already lined up to provide support and guidance and the aim is to utilise social media such as WhatsApp, Zoom or Facebook wherever possible to enhance the experience and work towards getting together for a chat in person over tea and cake. With the hope that contacts will be shared and friendships developed Finding Me offers a lifeline, a chance to gain a new network of friends and open future opportunities to re-integrate into society.
