Heart support has recently celebrated its first birthday. They have established themselves as a support group for older people with heart problems.

Over the last 12 months, Heart Support has been providing FREE weekly Exercise and Relaxation classes for people with heart and circulatory disorders in Stockton, Billingham and Hartlepool.

It has been busy and at times challenging for the Group. However, they have obtained Affiliation to British Heart Foundation (BHF), and Charity Registration with the Charity Commission.

People with heart problems are introduced by qualified tutors, to physical activity through an exercise programme in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Madge said, “A great BIG THANKS to our wonderful tutors in motivating members to their full potential.”

In addition, several social events have been organised throughout the year. A coach visit to Harrogate Christmas market, race, curry and quiz nights and a social evening with a local band, have been well supported by Heart Support members, family and friends. Supporters and members have enthusiastically raised funds through car boot sales, a sponsored ‘Dechox’, (denying themselves chocolates for month), Christmas and Easter hampers and other forms of raffles.

Heart Support is extremely grateful for the ongoing support and encouragement that they have received from the CCG in partnership with Catalyst, the National Lottery fund, BHF and Tees Valley Foundation.

Within the Group there is a determination to build on their current achievement of providing local opportunities, for exercise to improve the health of persons with heart problems, and through the social side of support for each other. Fun with a purpose.
