Hospice remembers inspirational founder with ‘My One In A Million’ campaign
Butterwick Hospice Care has launched the £1m fundraising campaign for 2020, based on supporters posting tributes to loved ones on social media while making a donation to the charity.
The inspiration for the idea was Mary Butterwick, who sold her house to fund the hospice following the death of her husband, John.
Butterwick Chief Executive Debbie Jones said: “At Butterwick Hospice Care, Mary Butterwick, will always be remembered as our ‘one in a million’. Over 35 years on from her making that huge sacrifice to found the hospice, we are still in awe of everything she gave to serve people within her local community.
“Mary’s lasting legacy gave us the inspiration to try and find others who are also ‘one in a million’. We want to take time to celebrate and remember these incredible individuals who have touched lives and left a lasting impact. They may have passed away or still be living but we want to hear about them.”
It costs £4 million pounds a year to run the hospice which receives less than 30 per cent of its costs from statutory bodies.
You can join the campaign by uploading a photograph of your ‘one in a million’ on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, explaining why they so special, and nominating friends to do the same. Please use the hashtag #MyOneInAMillion and tag Butterwick.
