The Household Support Fund is a government scheme that helps local authorities to support vulnerable households in the most need with the cost of essentials.

Nearly £3 million has been allocated to Stockton from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to provide support to a wide range of low-income households. This scheme runs from April 1st 2025, to March 31st 2026, to help those who are struggling to afford essentials, including energy and water bills, food, and wider essentials.

Only one application per household is permitted, and to apply, you MUST be the Council Tax payer, living within the Stockton-on-Tees Borough and meet the eligibility criteria.

The online application will take around 15 minutes. The information you will need to complete the application is:

  • Your last full payslip or proof of income to upload.
  • The last full payslip or proof of income of your partner and any other adults in the household to upload, if applicable.
  • A recent household energy bill (unless you have pre-payment metres)
