You are invited to Matrix Neurological’s Open Day on Thursday, 22nd May 2025.

Matrix Neurological is a charity dedicated to supporting children with acquired brain injuries following an accident or illness. The charity has secured £250,000 to establish a specialised alternative provision school for 11-16 year-olds living with acquired brain injuries on their recovery journey. To our knowledge, this is the first school of its kind nationally.

MATRIX Neurological Founder and CEO, Jan Rock, has lived experience of the devastating impacts acquired brain injuries have on children, young people and their families, following her son’s traumatic brain injury at the age of 16.   With a lack of ongoing neuro-rehab support, Jan and her family set about delivering their own neurological rehabilitation interventions by researching and implementing techniques from the USA and other countries.  Their interventions led to significant improvements in their son’s recovery, which astonished his doctors.

Once he was on the road to recovery, and at the request of medical staff involved in his care, Jan founded MATRIX Neurological, so that other families had access to the care and support they needed post-discharge from hospital, and to assist in the ongoing recovery of their loved ones.

Over the past 11 years the charity has spoken to a range of professionals working in this specialist field, including doctors and other allied professionals, and have worked with many children and their families who have been directly impacted by this life-changing disability.   Our innovative work has been described as ‘transformational’ by families.

During this time, they have learned much about what is happening to others, what works and what doesn’t.  The Alternative Provision School is being created a direct result of that learning and will provide non-clinical interventions to improve key cognitive skills, combined with tailored education to improve the long-term recovery outcomes for this forgotten cohort of children and young people.  This latest project marks a significant milestone in the charity’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of those affected by this hidden disability.

The school will offer a specialised curriculum that integrates non-clinical neuro-rehab interventions, specialised teaching methods and personalised tutoring to help students improve

  • confidence and self- esteem
  • regain a range of lost or impaired cognitive skills to improve their learning capabilities and independence, to enable them to have better long-term outcomes and improve life chances.

During our Open Day, we will be showcasing our newly purposed building on Preston Farm Industrial Estate and sharing our plans for progression of the school, and how you as valued members of community can contribute to the success of this innovative venture.

From the national response we have had to our press release issued in January 2025, we can’t impress enough, how much this school is needed, and your support moving this ground-breaking venture forward, will be greatly appreciated.

Please book a place on one of the sessions via lynne@matrixneurological.org.uk

Please state Open Day in the subject line of your email and the time of your preferred session.

We look forward to meeting you on the day.
