Over the last few months, we have been recruiting everyday people to volunteer their time and use their own life experiences to develop a supportive relationship with a young person and encouraging them to make positive life decisions and increase aspirations. As schools return from the summer break these mentors will be working with young people across the Tees Valley providing 1 to 1 support and encouraging participation.

On Thursday 9th September 9 mentors came together at River Tees Water Sports Centre for the final induction session. During this session we heard from previous volunteer mentors about their own experiences of mentoring in which they commented on how they have found that mentoring is a rewarding experience, which can be hugely beneficial making a significant, lasting impact on a young person’s future.

We hope that in 20 years’ time the young people who participated in this mentoring programme can look back with admiration and gratitude for their mentors, as well as pride in themselves for engaging with the programme and taking the opportunity when offered to them.
