A Fairer Stockton-on-Tees

A Fairer Stockton-on-Tees (FSOT) is the strategic framework for tackling inequalities in the Borough. The impact of inequalities is significant and impacts on quality of life, life chances and life expectancy. We have affluent areas alongside disadvantaged areas in the Borough. Nine of our 26 wards are in the 10% most deprived in the country and there is an average male life expectancy gap of 21 years between the most and least deprived areas.

At this time, the rising costs of food, fuel and other essentials are combining with this existing disadvantage and vulnerability to put households under significant pressure. This leaves them at risk of hardship and poor wellbeing in the short-term and reduced opportunity in the long-term.

FSOT’s immediate focus is on shaping Council services and working with our partners to ensure the most vulnerable individuals and families receive the help they need to navigate these challenges.

Fairer Stockton-on-Tees Project at Catalyst

At Catalyst, we work closely with partners in the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise Sector (VCSE) to promote and develop the services that can further address the aims of the Fairer Stockton-on-Tees Framework. Our aim is to gain a full understanding of the services that are currently available in the VCSE sector and how they complement commissioned services. We have built strong links with many organisations and support the work they deliver by supporting funding applications, providing networking opportunities at our forums and events, and sharing relevant and targeted information. The VCSE sector has a pivotal role to play in the successful delivery of the Fairer Stockton-on-Tees Framework and Catalyst’s role is to support this by developing strong links between agencies and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and by facilitating the co-delivery of projects. If you would like to find out more about the forums that Catalyst offers, please visit our forums page here.

In order to address the current Cost-of-Living Crisis, Catalyst have worked closely with the Fairer Stockton-on-Tees team to meet the needs of our local community. We have worked together on rolling out the Warm Spaces scheme which offers free, non-judgmental public places where people can go to get warm, save money on their heating costs, avoid social isolation and receive vital support and advice. Catalyst has supported the council in ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available to help people with a wide range of issues which have been impacted by the recent increase in living costs.
