Refugee Futures supports people seeking asylum and refugees in Stockton on Tees. Over the next three years Refugee Futures aims to enable over 1,300 people to maximise their abilities and to flourish in Stockton-on-Tees.

We deliver projects and work with other partners to offer welcome and orientation upon arrival and provide volunteering and training opportunities to be able to take part in a range of activities, connect and engage with local organisations and people and boost chances of getting a job once a person has permission to work.

Established in 2021 the charity is in the early stages of building the foundations and capacity on which to deliver its strategy. We are in the process of recruiting two additional roles to help the team achieve our objectives. The Volunteer Project Coordinator and Executive and Administrative Assistant roles will join the existing team which includes a full time Business Development Manager, a full-time Welcome Project Lead, a part-time Executive Director, a freelance Financial Administrator, and a number of volunteers who have lived experience of the asylum system.

Main Purpose of the role

Refugee Futures is committed to ensuring that asylum seekers can access volunteer opportunities, during a time when most do not have the right to work.  Volunteering can offer the opportunity to make friends, learn about the local area and make a meaningful contribution to the community while building skills for work in a new cultural context.  As the Volunteer Project Coordinator, you will ensure you are aware of the volunteer roles on offer in the town and work to match asylum seekers and refugees with a wide range of volunteer opportunities, accompany groups to weekly volunteer activities, and offer 121 support to assist people to apply for placements and build their confidence in preparing for and attending interviews.

We are looking for an empowering and person-centered support worker who encourages volunteers to lead the development of ideas and builds confidence in individuals. Someone who is warm hearted, welcoming, and supportive and builds trust and rapport quickly.

Responsible to: Development Manager

Hours: 4 days (30 hours) per week or a minimum of 22.5 hours per week for the right person. We are open to flexible working so hours could be spread over a number of days.

Salary Package: £27, 630 pro rata (£22,104 for 30 hours) plus pension scheme.

Contract: Fixed-Term until September 2024 following a 3-month probation period (possibility of extension subject to funding)

Location: Catalyst House, Stockton on Tees, & various locations in Stockton-On-Tees when delivering activities. Some remote working from home is possible within reason.

Executive and Administrative Assistant

The Executive and Administrative Assistant role will also enable the Executive Director to be more outward focused on strategic matters and partnership development.

Organisational systems, policies and procedures have been put in place but now need sustained management and on-going review. There is also the potential to create and support opportunities for refugees and people seeking asylum to volunteer in Refugee Futures to utilise their time and skills and to influence how we work.

Salary package: £28,350 pro rata (£17,010 for 22.5 hours) plus pension scheme

Contract: Permanent following a 3-month probationary period

Research Assistant

Closing date: 9am 15th July 

Do you have lived experience of the asylum system? Are you interested in learning how to do research? Have you got permission to work in the UK? If so, please consider applying to be a research assistant on our project!  The research project is a joint project between Refugee Futures and Dr Lauren Martin of Durham University Geography Department. We want to understand why settled refugees living in Stockton have chosen to live here long-term. The project explores refugees’ ideas and aspirations for their futures in Stockton upon-Tees.
