Community Interpreters are volunteers recruited by Catalyst who have either been students on the Stockton Learning & Skills Community Interpreting course, or are otherwise professionally qualified interpreters, who are looking to make a difference in their community by providing interpreting where it is not normally provided. While interpreters are provided to those who need it for things like GP appointments, someone may need a bit of a confidence boost getting out into their community, whether it be going to a community group activity, volunteering themselves, or even getting used to navigating local public transportation. We’ve already recruited Community Interpreters for Albanian, Arabic, and Spanish, and are looking to expand our team of volunteers to cover a wide range of languages to support our diverse local community.
