This Event takes place annually and it is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of young people in Stockton-On-Tees.
Professionals, Volunteers and Young people enjoyed a lovely meal which included one of our local specialities “Chicken Parmesan” and they were also treated to a performance by Ryan one of our care leavers who writes and performs his own poems and songs.
The Grandmentors Project* was represented by myself (Debbie Wilson) as the coordinator and seven of our volunteers. This gave us a great opportunity to socialise with our mentees and also to meet new young people. Our volunteers also enjoyed chatting to each other about their journeys so far within the project.
Awards were given out for success in Employment, Education and Training, Tennant of the Year and Young Person of the Year. It was good to see these certificates being presented and four of our mentees received the EET award.
*National charity Volunteering Matters are working with Stockton Leaving Care Team on the Grandmentors project, a unique mentoring project matching older volunteers (50+) to Care Leavers.
