Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council adopted the Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Local Plan as a development plan document on 30th January 2019.

The Local Plan sets out the overall strategy and policies for the development and use of land in locations across the Borough up to 2032 and includes a Policies Map. It replaces in full the Core Strategy (2010) and saved Stockton-on-Tees Local Plan policies (1997) and Stockton on Tees Alteration Number 1 to the Adopted Local Plan policies (2006).

The Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council Local Plan was the subject of an independent examination conducted by Matthew Birkinshaw, BA (Hons), Msc, MRTPI, an Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State. In his report, published on 17th December 2018, the Inspector confirmed that subject to a number of main modifications the Plan was sound and recommended its adoption.

The adopted Local Plan and Policies Map, the Adoption Statement, the Sustainability Appraisal Post Adoption Statement and all relevant documents are available online at and for inspection at the Council’s principal office, which is Stockton Central Library and Customer Service Centre, Church Road, Stockton-on-Tees, TS18 1TU and at all libraries in the Borough.
