The Warm Welcome at Thornaby Pavilion Indoor Bowls is now into its fifth week and it is going from strength to strength! The drop-in, organised by representatives of the Thornaby Community Partnership, is open to all and we regularly have around 20 lovely people attending each session. This is a mixture of familiar faces and new friends each time; some come on their own and others with a friend. Everyone is given a ‘Warm Welcome’ and a free cuppa and all are invited to join a game of bowls, cards, dominoes, bingo or just to have a natter.

This week we have been painting plant pots with the fabulous people from Creative Village, Lucy and Jess. Last week they offered a painting memories session and we were so pleased to be joined by the residents of local care homes. Red Cross are joining us on Thursday afternoon from 1-3 to talk about overcoming loneliness as part of Loneliness Awareness Week – pop in if you are free!

We can see that the group is much needed in Thornaby and now need to call on volunteers to help out at sessions. This would mean welcoming people, offering drinks and setting up games. If you have a couple of hours spare, this could be the volunteering opportunity for you, especially if you live in Thornaby!

Sessions are held every Tuesday morning from 10-12 and Thursday afternoon from 1-3. Please come and join us; we would love to see you! If you are interested in volunteering too, please email Karen Jessop, Fairer Stockton-on-Tees Coordinator at Catalyst, at karen.jessop@catalyststockton.org .
