COVID-19 Community Support Information, click here.

Catalyst’s Training & Market Development Programme provides a range of training and development opportunities to the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in Stockton-on-Tees.

Catalyst believes that the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in Stockton-on-Tees is vital in supporting our local communities. We conducted the Scoping the Sector survey in 2019 which highlighted a number of training and development needs from organisations in Stockton-on-Tees. As a result, Catalyst developed a programme that reflected the needs of the voluntary sector. The training sessions intend to develop the existing skills and knowledge of staff and volunteers working in the VCSE sector.

The programme is primarily focussed in four areas; Governance, Capacity Building, Specialist and Generic. This runs during the academic year.

Each course is delivered by skilled and experienced trainers. Wherever possible the courses will be delivered at no cost to the organisations taking part. There will be a charge for accredited courses, however, for organisations working or based in Stockton-on-Tees they will have access to the Professional Development Bursary.

As a result of COVID-19, Catalyst has undertaken a mapping exercise that looks at the state of the sector and the support that will need to be put in place to help to rebuild and strengthen the VCSE sector.

Please Note: For any cancellations, we require 48-hour notice. For non-attendance or cancellations within 48-hours, there will be a charge of either £30 or 50% of the training programme cost per delegate (whichever is highest).

This year, 181 people have signed up from 71 different organisations to the Training & Development Programme.

Digital Strategy for governors of VCSE Organisations

This course aims to advance the capability and knowledge in senior VCSE leaders to develop and deliver better quality, more effective Digital Strategies.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has undeniably proven technology as an essential enabler to most VCSE organisations, and changes that have had to be made in the way we communicate, collect information and serve our purposes are unlikely to return entirely to an early-2020 state.   However, research such as the Charity Digital Skills Report 2020 by Skills Platform provides evidence of a skills gap in digital leadership at a time when it’s emerging as a key need across the sector.

Developed and delivered by experienced IT and Business Development Consultants, this course is aimed at senior leaders governing smaller VCSE organisations (<50 employees), perhaps as Trustees, Board Members, in Management Committee roles or similar. It offers an opportunity to develop a better understanding on what Digital Strategies look like and aims to equip participants with sufficient knowledge to provide effective scrutiny of strategic planning and delivery from a digital perspective.

Over the course of one day it will cover the following:

  • Digital Strategy: what it is and isn’t
  • WAGOLL (What a good one looks like)
  • Where it fits within the wider strategic planning process
  • Data Security
  • Financial/Investment Planning
  • Delivery Road Maps: WAGOLL
  • ‘Questions to ask’ checklist

Digital Strategy for Senior VCSE Leaders

This course aims to advance the capability and knowledge in senior VCSE leaders to develop and deliver better quality, more effective Digital Strategies.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has undeniably proven technology as an essential enabler to most VCSE organisations, and changes that have had to be made in the way we communicate, collect information and serve our purposes are unlikely to return entirely to an early-2020 state.   However, research such as the Charity Digital Skills Report 2020 by Skills Platform provides evidence of a skills gap in digital leadership at a time when it’s emerging as a key need across the sector.

Developed and delivered by experienced IT and Business Development Consultants, this course is aimed at senior leaders in smaller VCSE organisations (<50 employees) who are responsible for developing their organisational strategies, such as Chief Executives or those in similar exec-level roles. It offers those leaders an opportunity to review and revise their existing, or develop entirely new Digital Strategies with support and guidance from experts in this field. Split over two days a 4-7 weeks apart, it will cover the following:

  • What is a Digital Strategy and what does this mean to my organisation?
  • What a good one looks like: the success criteria
  • Selecting the right products and suppliers (achieving value for money)
  • Data security
  • Financial/investment planning
  • Skills and expertise needs (internal v external)
  • Implementation roadmaps

It is expected that in the period between the first and second day participants will develop a draft Digital Strategy which you will review, with the support of the group members and Consultants, during the second session. During this interim period there will be the opportunity for remote support from the Consultants in order for you to discuss any challenges you are facing during the course of developing your draft Digital Strategy document based on what you have learned during the first session.
