Catalyst’s Training & Market Development Programme provides a range of training and development opportunities to the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in Stockton-on-Tees.

Catalyst believes that the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector in Stockton-on-Tees is vital in supporting our local communities. We conducted the Scoping the Sector survey in 2019 which highlighted a number of training and development needs from organisations in Stockton-on-Tees. As a result, Catalyst developed a programme that reflected the needs of the voluntary sector. The training sessions intend to develop the existing skills and knowledge of staff and volunteers working in the VCSE sector.

The programme is primarily focussed in four areas; Governance, Capacity Building, Specialist and Generic. This runs during the academic year.

Each course is delivered by skilled and experienced trainers. Wherever possible the courses will be delivered at no cost to the organisations taking part. There will be a charge for accredited courses, however, for organisations working or based in Stockton-on-Tees they will have access to the Professional Development Bursary.

**Please note that while the majority of our courses are free for members of the VCSE sector to attend, a £25 cancellation fee will be charged if you cancel your place within 48 hours of the training taking place or you fail to attend. In cases of training taking place over a number of days, you will be charged £25 for each session missed.**

This year, 181 people have signed up from 71 different organisations to the Training & Development Programme.

Level 5 Leadership in the VCSE Course

Next course will start in 2023

This is a six module course aimed at new managers in the VCSE and will lead to a level five qualification. As a special course concentrating on VCSE management it is heavily weighted towards the learning and experience that participants have at work. It is aimed to ensure that the development of our leaders of the future is grounded in the realities of their work and demands they face on a daily basis.  Find out more

Chairing Skills Training
Tuesday 4th October – 1pm – 4pm

Participants on this course will brush up on their chairing skills and explore factors that can improve confidence in chairing a meeting. Book your place

Drug Awareness Training
Wednesday 5th October – 1pm – 3pm

This session, delivered by Change Grow Live, will give participants an in-depth look at the problematic drugs affecting Teesside. Book your place

Basic Bid Writing
Tuesday 11th October, 9:30am – 12:30pm

The session aims to help participants develop the skills needed to write a successful bid. The session will explore identifying suitable funders, being clear about your aims and outcomes, basic budgeting and a ‘do and don’t’ guide to get you started. Book your place

Safeguarding Adults and Children
Wednesday 12th October, 9:30am – 12:30pm

This session, delivered by Stockton Borough Council Learning and Skills, takes a lifespan approach and includes safeguarding for adults and children and the links between both. Book your place

Volunteer Management
Sessions start 12th October

This course of 4 individual sessions, facilitated by MVDA, are for anyone who supports and manages volunteers and would like to take the time to reflect on their own practices. This course is designed so that you can attend all four units or mix and match individual units. Book your place

Food Safety 
Thursday 13th October, 9:30am – 3:30pm

In these sessions delivered by Sprouts (FKA Little Sprouts) , participants will build an understanding on the importance of safe food handling practices and keeping foods safe. Book your place

Emergency First Aid at Work 
Monday 24th October, 9:30am – 4:30pm

This course is aimed at people new to First Aid and wish to become a recognised First Aider in a ‘low risk’ environment. People applying for this course do not need any prior experience in First Aid. Book your place

Paediatric First Aid
Tuesday 8th November – 09:30am – 3:30pm

Charity Finance
Friday 11th November, 9:30am – 3pm

This session will give participants a complete overview of charity financing and accounts. Book your place

Advanced Bid Writing
Tuesday 15th November, 9:30am – 12:30pm

The session aims to help participants develop a funding plan and identify techniques for demonstrating their value to potential funders and investors. The session particularly aims to encourage participants adopting a strategic approach to fundraising which seeks to save time and effort. There will be opportunities to share ideas and tips.
