Give time

A growing number of employers recognise the value of providing their staff with an allocated number of volunteering days per year to help support good causes in their community.

This not only helps VCSE organisations to increase their capacity but provides a valuable staff development opportunity. Giving staff the time to help out in sectors different to their own helps them develop new skills, build confidence and gain a sense of giving something back.

Many employers worry about the impact on their productivity and service as staff take time out of their day to help others. Catalyst can help businesses consider ways to offer volunteering time in a way to suit their industry and minimise the impact on productivity. The average offer of volunteering days is 2-3 days a year, with many employers realising the benefit of allowing staff to split this down into regular blocks of short, micro-volunteering. We can help you tailor your offer to meet your needs while supporting the VCSE sector at the same time.

If you would like organisations to come to you, then you can add your volunteer hours on our Stockton Volunteers website. This will allow organisations to message you direct.

Examples of giving time

Our full time staff are awarded 3 days per year and part time staff is pro rata. Our team members can choose a charity or local organisation to volunteer for. The choice is made by the member of our team and agreed with their manager.

‘Since we introduced volunteering time for Catalyst staff, they have supported a real variety of organisations and communities in Stockton-on-Tees. Equally importantly, they have benefited from experiencing how other VCSE bodies deliver their services locally’. Jon Carling , Former Catalyst CEO
